you all might find this craig's list ad interesting, i have publications "studies in the scriptures" plus others, how can i valuate my inheritance grandma left me?

grandma was poor, she was third-generation witness who spoke boldly without fear of men.

what do you think they want these books for, i have lots of books dated pre-1950s,, if i was to part with my treasure how much do i charge?.

Look up similar items on eBay and that will give you a bit of an idea.

I think they want them for research and to have the originals handy to show to loved ones what they say one day.

I also think it's important to have collections because I'm certain one day there will be an announcement telling all congs to destroy their libraries and just install a computer linked up to the online library.

By the way if you (or anyone else for that matter) have an original copy of the 1920's brochure "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" I am looking for one to finish off my collection. I will pay a good price.

Yes she is 100% awake now thank goodness. I'm a very, very lucky man. As I'm typing this she's watching the latest broadcast in utter disbelief as Splain tries to 'splain the overlapping crap.

We definitely got the answer to our prayer I can see now. We don't bother with speaking to indifferent, heartless, sky people anymore. The sound of crickets chirping got annoying. In the last prayer I ever said I expressed some pretty nasty things to whoever was on the other end. I'm sure they don't want to talk with me now anyway.

Thank you for your thoughts but I'm afraid that we have moved on from that book and the characters in it. In the last file of my scans you can see the research I did - only from watchtower articles - that helped make up my mind as far as what I now think of the bible. Once I discovered the truth about that then I was completely free from any doctrine based on it. Here is the file again here (read the last half)...

I wondered where pappy got all this mega info from (promptly printed and clear file bound) and now I know. We sat reading through it all and its funny how it wasn't 'old' even knowing the flip flops was no substitute for seeing the actual text. Visual confirmation is a powerful thing! Lol. Now I understand your obsessive compulsive WT research comment as this stuff you've compiled is pretty good. It is helpful to have the full picture from start publication through flip floppy new old light, so thank you very much for sharing that info.

I'm so happy your parents are out with you. How are they coping with being awake at a late stage in life? Please say hi to them for me. I'm very jealous, I wish my parents were awake. My Dad is a hard-core Jdub and knows something is up with me. I know I'll be shunned very soon when they find out. Cherish the time you have with yours.

By the way that is only about half of the research I did. Yes I was a bit obsessive compulsive with it, but my future as well as my wife's were depending on this so I wasn't going to do it half-heartedly. I stopped compiling and filing it when Mrs Stumpy was finally awake and said she wanted to see the floor again instead of photocopies of WT articles piled up all over the place. (BTW that was one of the key ways in helping her wake up... she could see how serious I was about studying.)

After doing this I realized that it was almost all on jwfacts.com this whole time. Paul Grundy has done an absolutely amazing job with that website. I can only imagine the amount of time he has put into it. But I was determined not to look at any apostate sites during this time so it would all be my own decision. Plus my wife would never have looked at any apostate website either. But scans of original holy spirit blessed WT publications... they're not scary for a jw to look at. What's there to be afraid of.

For Those of You Who Still Serve... How Do You Do It?

new here... been lurking for some time now.... i still serve... but with each passing day, it gets harder and harder.

i'm slowly... slowly working on my wife (i call her mrs. hardcore) and even my m-i-l (who taught my wife how to be hardcore).

making some amazing progress... they are still hardcore... but unrecognizable from a couple years ago!.

I feel for you mate. I was in your exact shoes a few months ago. It's a tuff slog being awake and being an elder. I could only do it for a little while before stopping completely, once I knew it wasn't the truth my conscience wouldn't allow me to keep peddling that crap.

It takes a lot of guts to make a first post here so I can see you have it in you to get through this... it will be rough going for a while though unfortunately. We're all here to help you through it though. The people on this board are amazing and full of compassion and empathy as they have all been where you are. They have helped me and Mrs Stumpy immensely as we have made our way out.

How do you spend your time in field service? I've just been walking up to peoples doors, PRETEND TO RING THE DOOR BELL, (never knock) and then leave. I have avoided talking to so many people that way!

That's what I did too. When my wife woke, we would do it together we would make up the number of mags we "placed" and have fun telling the crazy zealous ones how awesome a morning we had. One morning one of them got so upset that she hadn't talked to anyone yet she asked if she could take what was supposed to be my next house... we swapped places and she found no-one and I lied that the house she was supposed to do turned into a potential bible study! She was so upset and jealous Man did we laugh about that. That's the only way I found to cope, make a game out of it and have some fun... otherwise you will go crazy.

We haven't been in field service for over 2 months now, believe me you're going to love getting your Saturday mornings back mate!

Shepherding calls are a nightmare... the ones I go on, I'll just talk about love and how to not be a terrible person. I hate going with elders that just want to drive in the "go to meetings, go in field service, do more" mantra.

The last few I did I told the elder I was with we are just going to ask them how they got the truth and then just listen, nothing more. Both parties loved it and I got out of the pressure of having to say something I didn't believe in anymore.

What about service meeting parts and public talks? How do you do those things with out raising suspicion or losing your sanity? If I were to listen to one of your public talks... would I know you were an apostate? Do you "lie" and say "support the GB" to avoid suspicion? Or do you make the talk as general and mainstream as possible and eliminate most of the cult speak?

Like mentioned before, just get rid of the ones your conscience won't let you do and stick to the generic ones. I actually had a lot of fun with my last public talk. I made it very practical and only used scriptures that contained good principles to live life by, whether you believe in a god or not. It went over really well. My last assembly part I had to give was more difficult as the outline had full on cult indoctrinating GB lingo in it. I just watered it down and eliminated the cult stuff like you mentioned and no one was the wiser. As someone mentioned above, the watchtower study is the hardest. If you are doing that I suggest getting out of that assignment asap... it will be torture otherwise.

Oh yeah, a big fat ZERO for at least the last 5 years. As I wrote in another thread...

...we haven't donated a cent to the org for at least 5 years. When we were in some of our assignments we witnessed a horrible amount of waste of donated funds by certain missionaries and bethelites. So we decided to give that money directly to needy families instead. One jackass missionary in particular made sure he spent every cent of the home funds every single month, regardless of whether they needed to or not. They lived like kings. Yet in his cong there were very poor families struggling to pay for medication for their sick kids, let alone 2 meals a day and they were guilted by him almost every service meeting into donating more and more. Makes me mad just thinking about it!

A few weeks ago the subject of money came up.

Mrs Stumpy asked her how much she was donating each month. For an elderly lady on a pension it was a significant amount. Like a lot of elderly ones, she is asset rich but cash poor. As we suspected, she would scrimp and save in other areas so she could faithfully donate to "Jehovah" each month.

So Mrs Stumpy proceeds to tell her mum that she has been a good mother and provided for her children well over her life, but now it's her turn to be looked after... that we are doing well financially and so from now on we will add her donation to ours when we put it in.

Initially she hesitated saying that wouldn't be right.

But Mrs Stumpy asked her if the donations she made when they were little kids, and had no money of their own, were from just her or from the whole family? She said of course they were from the whole family! So then that's exactly the same with this... it doesn't matter where it comes from, as long as the family unit is donating. Her mum agreed. She was extremely appreciative and instantly said how difficult it has been some months and how guilty she used to feel. Now she has quite a bit extra to spend on herself each month

Man I love my wife and how she thinks.

So take that WTS... no more donations from her to fill your coffers!!!

What ARE the fruits that the JW tree produces?

If the JW operation were a farm, the purpose of which is to produce literal fruit, then the leaders should be immediately fired. There would be workers doing everything possible to avoid real work. They'd be looking for ways to appear busy without really working.

They'd spend a whole bunch of time at boring company meetings talking about producing fruit, but little time actually doing it. They would be lacking in cultivating, fertilizing, reaping, and storing ability.Their marketing skills would be awful. They wouldn't be able to answer questions about their company. They couldn't defend it. They'd run from accusations against it.

And if you were a worker on that farm and mentioned to anyone at all that you think some of the fruit being packed and distributed is rotten, you'd be dragged to the front gate and kicked to the road in a heartbeat. You would never be allowed back on to the property where your family is living... unless you come grovelling back on your hands and knees to the lead hands and agree to eat and help with packing and distributing that rotten produce again.

Count me in. Fully woke up between December 2014 and March 2015. Got wife to wake up, stepped aside as an elder and in to full fade mode. At the moment we are absolutely loving and making best use of our newly found time on the weekends

guess the overlapping generation concept is difficult for most to comprehend.

the cutoff date for this generation has now moved to 1992 (was once 1935), the year that fred franz died.

What a load of crap (we all know it's based on a false premise)... but a very smart move on their part.

It has obviously got back to them that many, many people are having a tough time with this overlapping generation teaching. And as we know most jw's don't care if they can't fully understand or explain something themselves - they just feel safe knowing that there IS an explanation for it and that if need be they can refer people to it.

Ask any jw about how 1914 came about and 95% will not be able to explain it. But they do know that there is some sort of explanation in the back of the bible teach book somewhere and will direct you there. In their minds it's "problem averted, now let's get back to more superficial jw stuff, you think too much."

I wish this would be something that would wake a lot up, but instead I can't help but think that this is going to pacify a lot of the still-ins with doubts. And if someone questions the overlapping nonsense from now on, the elders can proudly say "that was fully covered and clarified by the GB in the September broadcast."
